A letter on what it takes to run an electrical company in the South Okanagan.

On the job in Penticton, BC
Out on a service call. Penticton, British Columbia.

Most people don't think much about the wiring behind their walls until something stops working. That's fair. You shouldn't have to. My job, and the job of the crew I run out of Unit 101 at 742 Eckhardt Avenue West, is to make sure the electrical part of your home, your shop, or your jobsite simply works, day after day, without giving you a single reason to think about it.

We're Penticton Electric Ltd. We're located in Penticton and we service all of the South Okanagan and Similkameen. That sentence is the whole geography of the business. From the lakefront to the back roads outside Keremeos, if you've got a panel that needs upgrading, a dock that needs power, an EV charger to install, or a light that's been flickering for a month, we drive to you.

I wanted to take a few minutes to write down what we actually do and why we do it the way we do. Not a brochure. Just a letter.

Part one Why we exist

There are six things we tell anyone who asks what makes our shop different, and they're worth saying out loud. The first is expertise and experience. Electrical work isn't a place to learn on the job at someone else's expense, and our crew has put in the years to know what a healthy panel looks like and what a tired one is trying to tell you. The second is safe electrical solutions, which sounds obvious until you've seen what happens when corners get cut. The third is quality workmanship guaranteed. We back what we install.

The fourth is a full range of residential services, because a homeowner shouldn't have to call three trades to get one job done. The fifth is quick response, which matters most on the day you don't have power. The sixth is in-depth knowledge of building codes. The code is not paperwork. It's the difference between a house that ages well and one that doesn't, and we read it the way other people read the newspaper.

Put all six together and what you get is a small Penticton shop that takes the trade seriously. The level of acclaim we've earned as a company is thanks to the professionalism and expertise of our staff, and I'd rather build the business slowly on that than chase volume any other way.

"No task is too big or too small for our capable crew. We are a licensed, insured, and bonded business with a robust liability insurance policy to our name."

Part two What we actually do

The honest answer is: most of it. Residential rewires and new construction. Commercial fit-outs and industrial work. Panel upgrades, repairs, inspections, and the kind of wiring jobs that don't fit neatly on a service menu. We install EV chargers and home automation. We wire hot tubs, saunas, and the dock at the cottage. We do Mobile Home Silver Label inspections. We do emergency calls when the power goes sideways at the worst possible hour.

We're flexible on scheduling and we run large enough crews to keep turnaround quick. That's the practical version of dependable, affordable electrical installation and repair. We try to be innovative problem solvers, which usually means listening before quoting, and we strive to implement sustainable work practices at every turn and lean toward the latest green technology when it makes sense for the job.

Rather than bury the full service list in prose, here it is in one place. If you don't see what you're looking for, call. The chances are good we do it.
